REFRACTION

REFRACTION /rĭ-frăk′shən/: A beauty-bringing phenomenon caused by turning or bending any wave, such as a light or sound wave, when it passes from one medium into another of different optical density.

I love the forms, colors, and movements of the sea. Refraction (67×21×2) is my latest offering from that deep well of inspiration. It comes from long, sun-washed walks along white-sand coastlines. It’s on such days that The Master Artisan’s light-bending genius is on full, heart-bending display. By His design, sunlight penetrates the sea to create an ever-changing, undulating beauty-dance. By masterfully manipulating sun, water, and wave, He creates a living work of art to delight and soothe.

Refraction merely hints at His masterful imagination in so ordering the natural world for our delight and His glory. Its soothing, multi-layer forms speak of dancing waves and the shadowy, underwater wiggles they create with their photonic dance partner. Variable color-splashes throughout the piece remind of the endless hues borne of this incredible phenomenon. Subtle, iridescent hints note the occasions when light reflects instead of refracts in the delightful water-and-light routine.

Just like its inspirational source, Refraction is continually remade as its source-light shifts throughout the day. It’s as if its hues and shadows delight in an ever-changing dance with its light-leader’s moves in brightness, color, and angles. To enjoy this dance, install this Refraction where light varies.

Created with sustainably-forested wood.
