The Longboarder

This is the classic Long board surfer pose - the man with his "gun" (a 9-foot board used for riding big waves and sticking awesome poses in smaller surf). This piece was inspired by the Long board greats like Hawaiian Duke Kahanamoku. I'm hoping to cast the figure in bronze and make the board out of Koa wood - a gorgeous hardwood that grows naturally in Hawaii and that has been used for decades to make surf boards. Here's the progression of the figure from the bare wire armature to the finished piece, ready for mold-making.
